Breath of Victory
9m 47s
This breathing technique is both energizing and calming. It helps to anchor the mind and internalize awareness by focusing on the sound the breath creates. It is commonly used during Asana to deepen practice. This breath creates a sound that some describe as a “Darth Vader” noise, or a hissing sound. Remember that the goal is not to be the loudest one in the room or to push or force anything, but to find that gentle constriction that allows for a soothing ocean sound you can connect to.
Instructions:
Inhale through your nose
Relax your jaw, open your mouth.
Exhale with a “HAAAA” sound. (Option to place hand in front of your mouth to imagine you are fogging up a mirror)
Repeat a few times until you feel the constriction and are comfortable making a sound.
The next time you exhale, close your mouth part way through and continue to make the soft hissing sound with the mouth closed, exhaling through your nose.
The tip of your tongue might rest against the back of your upper front teeth.
Keep the slight restriction in your throat.
You might even cover your ears to try and hear the sound better when you are learning.
